Mindful Connections
Kelly’s work feels like firm Swedish style massage hunting for trigger points.
Schedule:
By request & bookable online.
Kelly began her career as a painter working out of a small backyard studio in Santa Fe, New Mexico and taking daily runs in the dry high desert. After many nose bleeds and moments of low blood sugar, Kelly visited a nutritionist that suggested not only eating to fuel for runs but also suggested receiving a massage to be more in tune with hunger.
While the suggestion seemed a little out there, the results did not. Working on mindfulness resulted in a shift and Kelly signed up to go to massage school at Cortiva in 2003 in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
After school, Kelly began working at Inman Oasis with the wonderful team there and developed a love for working with injuries in a home practice in Somerville while taking orthopedic massage and cadaver labs in Rhode Island and working one on one with members of an elite rowing team.
A few years later, Kelly moved her home practice to Arlington and invited other providers to join her in creating a wellness center with different modalities. Kelly’s work primarily was with runners and with folks that had suffered whiplash injuries.
Since then, Kelly has welcomed Water House to evolve into a larger community with a focus on employee’s having a great place to work and develop as artists. Each provider’s passion and perspective is welcome. Kelly’s work has shifted again into a role of overseeing the big picture of the company and management.
When getting to work one on one doing massage, Kelly is reminded of how great this profession is and how lucky we are to be doing this kind of work.
Modalities
Orthopedic Massage Therapy, Firm Pressure, Therapeutic Massage, NMT, Myofascial Release
Kelly is skilled in treating
symptoms that arise from:
Soreness in our body is often caused by tension, stress, or staying in one position for too long, but it also can be caused by the repetitive mind looking for pain in the background of our daily lives. Subconsciously, as we move through our lives injury and age bring about a new mindset of “this hurts” and we come to expect pain. Gone are the days that we took big risks and cartwheels because we know for certain we will pay a price later.
This lack of freedom to move with confidence results in a feedback look of restriction and soon we tense up before we are even hurt. Massage has a special way of interrupting this feedback by pressing reset, if only for a short time. Other ways we can reset include moving more, learning new dynamic skills that use our bodies in different ways and remembering not to focus on pain or look for it.
For those looking for an approach to the work that attends to what you are feeling in your body but also asks how to disrupt patterns of pain, Kelly’s work might be for you.
Anxiety & fear around being in front of the camera, but approaching photography in a mindful, energetic way to capture raw emotion & authentic moments.
Playlist
We have invited our therapists to link to a playlist that speaks to their personality or that is a sample of what would be played during a massage.
