Your face is your front to the world. Many of us put in a lot of time and money to be sure that we look our very best. Facials, skincare products, and esthetic treatments do a lot for your appearance but sometimes you might look one way on the outside but feel another way on the inside. A new treatment exclusive to Water House Wellness can help you release the stress and emotional build up under the surface so that you really are putting your best face forward.

Master Massage Therapist Sarah has used her expertise to integrate the relaxation that massage can provide, along with the benefits of a good skincare treatment. We’re calling it the Radiance Release Facial Massage. Sarah works to understand what is going on beneath the surface to release anxiety, stress, and built up emotion that has led to physical pain and cosmetic issues such as wrinkles or dark circles. This isn’t an esthetic treatment, but one of the “side effects” is its benefits to your skin.

The Lymphatic System

One of the hallmarks of this treatment is that it helps to move lymph to carry waste out of the body.  Lymph is a transparent, colorless fluid that makes and moves white blood cells that are essential to immunity. As lymph flows through the lymphatic system it traps waste in the lymph nodes. This is why sometimes when you aren’t feeling well, you may notice swollen lymph nodes in your neck or armpits. They’re working to fight  some of the bad stuff that is causing your illness, whether it’s a cold or cancer. The lymphatic system is an amazing part of our bodies that most of us know nothing about!

Once the waste is trapped in the lymph nodes, it needs to make its way out of the body. Inside the lymph nodes are white blood cells, also called lymphocytes. These white blood cells attack and break down bacteria, viruses, damaged cells or cancer cells.

Then, lymph fluid carries the waste products into the bloodstream so that the liver or kidneys can remove these from the blood. The body passes them with other body waste, through bowel movements or urine.

As great as this system can be, it doesn’t always work like it should. The lymphatic system doesn’t have a pump, like the heart, that does this automatically. The best way to move lymph is by moving your body. Another way is through lymphatic massage, where a practitioner works to physically move lymph so it gets the waste out of your body faster.

Since 30% of your lymph nodes are in and around your face and neck, lymph can get stuck and manifest in not only illness, but things like wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, and rashes.

How the Radiance Release Facial Massage Works

You’ll lie face up, also known as the supine position. Master Massage Therapist Sarah works on your upper body, including your shoulders, neck, head, face, jaw, scalp, chest, or hands. Sarah lets her intuition guide her during the process.

One thing that makes this treatment unique, besides the positioning, is that Sara uses tools based in traditional Chinese medicine. The gua sha is a polished stone that works the face, easily gliding with the use of oils. It will clear, tighten, plump, and rejuvenate the skin while providing a pleasant massage. Sarah may use a gua sha for the face, body and even has a special one for the scalp. This helps to stimulate blood flow and may even help to regrow or thicken your hair!

The Radiance Release Facial Massage also incorporates miniature silicone cups made for the face. The origins of these cups date back to China in 200 AD. They stimulate, detoxify, and clear the skin and its many layers. These special cups don’t leave marks, are gentle on the skin, and work to activate the lymphatic system.

Both tools use acupressure and myofascial release to get the job done.

Who Benefits from the Treatment?

The Radiance Release Facial Massage is a non-traditional treatment for tension headaches, jaw tension, TMJ, sinus pain or pressure, and may help to prevent or treat mild migraines. People who do intellectual work or experience high levels of stress may find relief for symptoms caused by those things. Recipients are likely to feel a sense of relaxation, a release of tension as well as lymphatic and sinus drainage.

In summary, it is a great treatment for:

  • Headaches

  • Jaw tension

  • TMJ

  • Sinus pain or pressure

  • Prevention or treatment of mild migraines

  • Stress relief

  • Symptoms stemming from high levels of intellectual work

  • Anti-Aging

What makes this experience different is that the technique works like a traditional massage but it also has some short term cosmetic benefits. The Radiance Release Facial Massage promotes microcirculation, collagen production, tighter skin and lifting of the cheekbones, jawline, and brows, and circulation for the scalp that can stimulate hair growth.

Radiance Release Facial Massage is available in 30, 45, and 60 minute sessions.

We also offer another supine upper body massage, called the Tension Tamer. This one gives you relief without the use of the TCM tools. Both treatments are exclusive to Sarah at Water House Wellness! You can book your session online now, or call us at (339) 707-0476.
