Massage therapist sits in a chair in front of a gong and a plant, he looks up and to the left through his glasses

An orthopedic approach.

Doug is a 2008 graduate of the Salter School in West Boylston, MA. While at the Salter School, he studied under Rich Nadeau of Boston's Exhale and Nikki Campanale of Worcester’s Revitalize, both of whom used the instructive opportunity to impart valuable lessons, gleaned from their years of experience working as massage therapists and beyond the lessons taught by other instructors he studied under. He continually seeks to further his knowledge and skill set by studying the works of the gurus and innovators of his field. Doug's work relies on the inherent flexibility of Swedish massage; there may only be a handful of techniques, but their modality and scalability make them useful for virtually any kind of muscular tension. Every ache becomes a puzzle; from there each variation in technique becomes the next step in solving that puzzle.

Doug has spent the decade of his career working in various spas in Boston, Quincy, and most lately in Cambridge. In Arlington, he's happy to have found a workplace that allows him peace of mind while he offers his work and skills to clients: compassionate coworkers willing to mentor, equitable pay, reasonable policies, and a drastically shorter commute to boot!

Doug is an avid consumer of creative fiction: he favors hard sci-fi, satiric comedy, and crime drama. He's a fan of the literature of Terry Pratchett, Neil Gaiman, and Warren Ellis. He can occasionally be caught babbling extensively on the plot structure and symbolism of films and television series. His sweet-tooth for creative media is only equaled by a more literal sweet-tooth: his love of delectable pastry! He recommends the baklava at Athan's Bakery of Brookline & Brighton if you're inclined to honey and crushed nuts.

Doug’s work feels firm and deliberate, deep and planned.

Doug’s method also tends to eschew a full-body approach in favor of working on specific areas of tension, as well as areas around those that could contribute to the tension of the main focus area. From there, Doug sets himself to patiently wear away at aches until they fade in the pleasant warmth of good massage work. He also incorporates deep tissue, myofascial release, trigger point, and orthopedic techniques as needed, as a holistic and varied approach is often useful.

Doug is skilled in treating
symptoms that arise from:

-back, hip and neck pain

- headache, jaw pain

- spine issues that cause pressure on surrounding soft tissue

- repetitive injuries, sprains and strains

What To Expect:

Your session will begin with communication about your concerns and your goals for the treatment. Before you get started, Doug reviews his plan and asks clarifying questions about each issue.

The treatment is results driven as well as relaxation focused. Doug will change course if something comes up mid-session, just speak up and the plans will be adjusted.

Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable. Even a superficial look at history reveals that no social advance rolls in on the wheels inevitability. Every step towards the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggle; the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individuals. Without persistent effort, time itself becomes an ally of the insurgent and primitive forces of irrational emotionalism and social destruction. This is no time for apathy or complacency. This is a time for vigorous and positive action.

Playlist

We have invited our therapists to link to a playlist that speaks to their personality or that is a sample of what would be played during a massage.

While we are collecting everyone’s input, please enjoy this selection from the owner below

A suggestion from the owner, “Ghost of Kodoku (Tycho Remix) from Sound of the Storm. Sound of the Storm is a remix EP re-imagining the original soundtrack of Ghost of Tsushima, created in collaboration with PlayStation and Sucker Punch Productions by Tycho” - Tycho is one of Kelly’s go to artists to play during treatments!
